Breads of the World

The 2014 "Share Lent" campaign of Development and Peace began in December by Pope Francis.   When we receive the consecrated bread at communion we receive the bread of life.  Bread is also a staple food in many countries and is eaten in many different forms.  On Sunday, April 6th,  young people from the catechism classes, dressed in traditional costumes, offered Father Duguay the appropriate bread for that country.  As the young people proceeded up the aisle it was announced which country was represented and the types of bread eaten.

Thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time and everyone who donated money.  Thank you again.  We are all “One human family” but we need to share to ensure “food for all.”  Finally we thank the young volunteers from the catechism classes.

Parents Night Out Fun!

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: In January, 1864, 150 years ago, it took four Sisters of Charity more than two weeks to make the arduous journey by train and then by open sleigh to Bathurst, one of the most northern villages in New Brunswick. The same route today from Halifax is less than four hours. Over the years, we staffed two schools in Bathurst and many young women entered the Congregation including Mothe...r Benedicta Harrington, Mother Mary Cleophas Connors and Mother Mary Bonaventure Kennedy. Interestingly, Sister Paule Cantin, (RIP) former Superior General, was the last Sister of Charity to leave Bathurst in 2005.
Addressing the people of Bathurst, Sister Paule said: "The Sisters of Charity have been welcomed by the people of Bathurst from the moment we arrived. Although, we will no longer be physically present in Bathurst we know the charism will live on inour former students and the lives we have touched".
